Personally, I find it quite hard to follow a blog discussion when there are more than 15/20 people actively participating. Many times, the lateral discussions that naturally develop from the original issue lose sense! I would recommend trying smaller discussion groups within the same blog.</description>

We&#039;ve had this difficulty at Harvard in trying to create spirited dialog using technology outside of class time.  Hard and fast assignment seems to be the way to go to ensure broad participation, but also foment resentment among students.  Unfortunately, I&#039;m leaning towards the idea that students invest time in a class in proportion to the value they see in it.  Private lessons are a great opportunity to create an artifact of the work; its already individualized and we have a desire to attend and receive as much out of the interaction as possible.  Are students in these other classes as invested as they would be in their lessons?  Would they take the time to &quot;learn more?&quot;  The answers might begin to inform your conversation.</description>
